Watch: Extended ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Trailer Released

A new trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron has been released. Check it out below:

As you can see, the trailer is very similar to the original one that was leaked. There are a few additions to it, such as an action scene of Iron Man flying and taking down guards in a wintery location.

There are also a few new scenes featuring Ultron himself.

Age of Ultron will hit theaters on May 1, 2015. Stay tuned to Nerdgasms for more information as it is released.

Character of the Day: Crimson Dynamo

Nerdgasms’ Character of the Day (COTD) will examine a different Marvel or DC character every day of the week. Be sure to check back at 9:00 a.m. ET each day to learn about someone new. Today’s COTD is Marvel’s Crimson Dynanmo.

Anton Vanko, archenemy of Iron Man, originally created the Crimson Dynamo armor to attack Tony Stark, as he was viewed as an enemy of the Soviet Union.

Vanko fled Russia and switched sides, however, taking the Crimson Dynamo armor with him. He took a job with Stark, losing his life in order to save his. Many others have taken the role of Crimson Dynamo since.

Gennady Gavrilov, a teenager who was one of the most recent Crimson Dynamos, gained control of a Mark II version of the armor. The identity of the current hero is unknown.

The armor features hand blasters that fire bolts of electricity that can stop an attacker cold. A fusion caster weapon can also attack enemies with a devastating blast.

Now that the Crimson Dynamo is on the side of the United States, the hero often teams up with Iron Man, Black Widow and War Machine.

Confirmed: Avengers Roster Will Change at the end of ‘Age of Ultron’

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to be shaken up in a very big way.

Marvel Studios head (and genius) Kevin Feige spoke to Buzzfeed and confirmed that the Avengers roster will be altered at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

This is something we all already assumed, especially with rumors of Tony Stark gathering new Avengers for Avengers 3. Of course, there are several possibilites to explore here.

For one, Feige could be talking about a death. Chris Evans’ film contract is infamously coming to a close. Could he be killed off (or put in critical condition) at the end of Ultron? This would make sense, because anything strong enough to shatter Captain America’s Vibranium shield could also kill the hero.

It makes sense for Marvel to kill off a hero rather than have him ride off into the sunset. Bucky Barnes (the Winter Soldier) or Sam Wilson are more than capable of taking over, as they have done in the comics.

Another possibility is that Captain America and Stark go their seperate ways in order to set up the Civil War storyline. The Avengers roster would then be altered based on which heros side with Cap and which side with Iron Man.

Yet another option involves Thor either leaving the team or being stripped of Mjolnir. He was pictured only briefly with his hammer in the trailer, and that can’t be a coincidence. Perhaps Loki, posing as Odin, will have an impact on all of this.

Bruce Banner could also part ways with the team, as he doesn’t seem to be much of a team player in the trailer. After all, there’s a reason Stark whips out the Hulkbuster armor.

Finally, an “alteration” could refer to the addition of characters. We know Quicksilver, the Scarlet Witch and Vision join the team during the film, but others could join as well. The Black Panther is a logical option to sign on, but his role is still all conjecture.

What do you think Feige meant by his comments to Buzzfeed? Leave your ideas in the comments section below and stay tuned for more information.

Initial Reactions to “Avengers: Age of Ultron” Teaser Trailer

You all know by now that the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer hit the interwebs a bit earlier than expected. Below you’ll find my initial reactions from the teaser trailer. But first, refresh your memory by watching it again:

  • Ultron: Damn. James Spader has really captured some dark vibes for his role as Ultron, the Avengers’ latest villain intent on destroying humanity. But Ultron’s view is twisted: he wants to destroy humanity to save the Earth. This isn’t going to be your typical Marvel villain. This is going to be dark and dreary, and fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe need to buckle up. The fact that he closes the trailer with the line “there are no strings on me” sets up a potential storyline centered on how the Avengers are like puppets for good.
  • Where’s Vision?: The Vision is one of the several new characters who will be introduced in this film, but he’s nowhere to be seen in the trailer. Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch make frequent appearances, but Paul Bettany’s character isn’t seen. Bettany, who also voices Tony Stark’s robotic aid J.A.R.V.I.S., will likely transition the character from seemingly lifeless to a superhero. That’s how it has traditionally worked, anyway.
  • Captain America’s Broken Shield: Made of Vibranium, Captain America’s shield is supposedly impossible to break. Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, couldn’t so much as scratch it. Even the Hulk couldn’t make a dent in it. So how does it break? There are six characters in the history of Marvel who have damaged it—Thor, Doctor Doom, The Molecule Man, Vibranium Cancer, Thanos and the Serpent. The likely candidate here seems to be Thanos, who Joss Whedon and Co. are effectively building up for Avengers 3.
  • The Hulkbuster!: Something doesn’t go too well with Bruce Banner in this movie, we just don’t know what yet. That leads Stark to break out the Hulkbuster model of his Iron Man suit. One theory is that Ultron manages to take over control of the Hulk and forces him to go against the rest of the Avengers. But that wouldn’t necessarily explain the multiple scenes in which Banner isn’t acting like himself. Why’s he curled in a ball and shaking in a blanket? What forced the inevitable episode that forced his trek through the snowy woods?
  • Who’s the bearded guy?: Some say he’s might be Ulysses Klaw, the archenemy of the Black Panther. Keeping the Black Panther under wraps this long would be quite the accomplishment for Marvel Studios, especially considering how quickly the trailer itself leaked. So will T’Challa have some small role in the film? Well, it’s not unbelievable. There are two unnamed projects scheduled for 2017, one of which could easily be the Black Panther.
  • When do Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch become Avengers?: Plans for the Maximoff twins are for them to be Avengers. They don’t seem to start that way, however—at least that’s not what the trailer shows. It looks like they start out on Ultron’s side. Maybe he releases them from the cells that housed them at the end of Captain America 2: the Winter Soldier. Or maybe he brainwashes them. Or maybe they’re undercover agents for SHIELD. Or maybe it’s something completely different.
  • Tony Stark, Ironless Man: Will Stark ever don the Iron Man suit again? He seemingly blew them all up at the end of Iron Man 3. We do see the Hulkbuster, but could that be James Rhodes? Rhodes is obviously War Machine, but Stark could feasibly turn the Iron Man name over to his good friend. Rhodes has been Iron Man before, so it’s not unlikely. Stark doesn’t seem too thrilled with going on another mission—as we saw in the trailer.

Robert Downey Jr. on Captain America 3: “It’s Going to be Huge”

Robert Downey Jr.’s press tour for the Judge has given us comic fans a bevy of quotes and sound bites from Marvel Studio’s biggest asset, as Downey continues to hint that Captain America 3 is going to be probably the most epic installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Rumor has it that Tony Stark is going to play a major role in Cap 3, though Downey has yet to chime in on his exact role. He does continue to give us hints that it’s going to be something that will blow people’s minds, however.

He spoke with Tom Butler of Yahoo! Movies this past weekend, and Butler wrote about why Downey hasn’t been able to give his fans much information:

While neither exactly confirming or denying the rumours, the actor says ‘Captain America 3’ sounds “very exciting.” He adds that if he were to comment directly on the rumors he’d “just regret it,” hinting at the legendary draconian NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements) the key actors are said to be bound by.

With reportedly no plans in place for Iron Man 4, Downey has been the subject of much speculation. Nobody truly knows the future of Stark in the MCU except for a few key figures in Marvel Studios, but even their extent of knowledge is uncertain.

We know right now that Downey plays a key role in the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie scheduled to hit theaters in May 2015. In the sequel to the Avengers, Stark creates a weapon (known as Ultron) that goes bad and creates an imminent threat to the human race.

This is where the speculation for Cap 3 begins. Given the events of Ultron, some opine that Marvel could follow the Civil War storyline—where Captain America and Iron Man oppose each other about a law requiring superheroes to file their true identities with the government.

Stark complies with the law because of how bad he feels about nearly destroying the human race. Steve Rogers disagrees with the law, as he believes it is an injustice to the rights of man. Given how the Captain American films have been a catalyst for big changes in the MCU (introducing Hydra and then re-introducing Hydra in the two installments), Cap 3 could certainly bring about another massive storyline—one that would certainly qualify as “huge.”

Several questions stem from this storyline, like whether or not Hydra will still be a factor. We’ll certainly know more after Avengers 2, as that will effectively end Marvel’s Phase 2 and move us rather quickly into Phase 3.

Stay tuned to find out more.
